Can I use Blitz on my phone or tablet?
Yes! Blitz is a mobile-first solution. The free BlitzSports app runs on any modern iPhone, iPad, or Android device and controls the scoreboard over Bluetooth. Get the app.
Does Blitz require internet access to work?
Not to run the scoreboard. The app controls the board over Bluetooth, so scoring works in rinks with no Wi-Fi or cell service.
Posting live scores to blitzsports.com is separate — that uses the timekeeper's phone connection. If the rink is a dead zone, the game still runs perfectly on the board; it just won't appear online until the phone has signal again.
How do the scores get from the rink to the website?
The timekeeper's phone sends each event to BlitzSports as it happens, over its own cell or Wi-Fi connection — that's what you're watching from home. The Bluetooth link to the scoreboard is completely separate, so a dropped signal never interrupts the game on the board.
Can I update the score and clock at the same time?
Yes, absolutely! The Blitz interface is designed for quick, intuitive control, including score, period, penalty, and time.
What happens if my phone battery dies during the game?
Simply grab a second device, enter what you see on the scoreboard, and then connect to the Blitzbox. You'll pick up right where the other device left off with minimal disruption.
How can I set Blitz up to honk the horn at periodic intervals?
The Shift Timer option is available within the hockey and ringette game settings. When configured, Blitz automatically honks the horn at your chosen interval.
How do I follow my child's game live from home?
Visit blitzsports.com and find your child's game on the live scores page. You'll see real-time score updates, period changes, and game events as they happen — no login required.
How do I get notified when a game starts or ends?
Follow your child's team on BlitzSports and enable push notifications. You'll receive alerts when games start, end, or when scores are updated.
Is my child's personal information collected or shared?
No. Games are recorded by team and jersey number — we don't collect personal information about individual players. Information we collect from people who use our site and app is described in our Privacy Policy.
Is there an app I need to download?
To run the scoreboard, yes — download the free BlitzSports app for iPhone or Android. To follow live scores, no: just go to blitzsports.com in any web browser, nothing to install.
Is BlitzSports free for parents and spectators?
Yes. Following games, viewing scores, and receiving notifications are completely free for parents and spectators.
Can I see game scores and stats after the game is over?
Yes. Completed games remain available on the site with final scores, period-by-period breakdowns, and full event logs so you can review everything after the final buzzer.
What sports does Blitz support?
Blitz supports hockey, ringette, basketball, volleyball, baseball, and box lacrosse — plus any timed or untimed sport that runs on a digital scoreboard.
Venues / Facilities
What scoreboard brands do you currently support?
Nevco and Daktronics. BlitzBox ships today for both — see Nevco and Daktronics. Support for OES scoreboards is in development.
Is the Blitzbox hard to install?
No. On a wired scoreboard the BlitzBox plugs in using the same connector as your existing controller — under a minute, with no rewiring and no special tools. Wireless setups take a bit longer, since we match the BlitzBox to your board's configuration first. We offer remote video support for every install.
Do you support wireless scoreboards?
Yes. The Wireless BlitzBox is shipping now at $1,500 CAD, one time, with no subscription. Because wireless setups vary more than wired ones, we confirm your board's configuration before shipping — tell us about your venue and we'll check compatibility.
Can we keep our existing scoreboard controller?
Yes, on a wired BlitzBox. It has a pass-through port, so your OEM controller stays plugged in and you switch between the app and the controller with a toggle — nothing is removed and nothing is rewired. The wireless BlitzBox replaces the legacy controller instead of passing through it.
How do you prevent multiple people from trying to control the scoreboard?
Only one device can connect to the Blitzbox at a time. Once connected, all other devices are locked out until the connection ends.
What if someone else has connected to Blitz and they're not in the timekeeper's box?
You can simply disconnect and reconnect the Blitzbox power cable. This will remove any connected device, allowing you to take control.
Associations / Leagues
Is Blitz safe for official games and tournaments?
Yes. Blitz provides a reliable and secure connection, and it prevents unauthorized users from making changes during gameplay.
Is there volume/bulk pricing for associations?
Yes. Multi-venue pricing is worked out per association rather than published as a fixed tier — rollouts differ in board count, brand mix, and wired versus wireless. Tell us how many venues and which scoreboards and we'll put numbers to it.
Do volunteer timekeepers need training to use Blitz?
No training needed. The app is really intuitive, and there's a guided walk-through the first time you install it.
Can we deploy Blitz across all venues in our league?
Yes. Each venue needs its own BlitzBox, matched to that building's scoreboard, but the app and the live scores are league-wide from day one. Mixed Nevco and Daktronics buildings are fine — start here.
Does Blitz provide league-wide stats and reporting?
Every game your venues run is already captured — scores, periods, penalties, and full event logs. The BlitzData API opens that up for standings and season reporting, and is currently in private beta with selected partners.
Can we export game data (scores, stats, penalties)?
That's what the BlitzData API is for — live scores, play-by-play, and box scores as clean JSON. It's in private beta with selected partners; tell us what your league needs and we'll talk about early access.
